Description

Volunteer with Over The Wall to gain incredible experience, change lives and have fun!
Our Safeguarding Officers are an extremely important part of Camp as they act as ambassadors of our Safeguarding policy, helping to ensure the mutual protection of Campers, Volunteers and Staff.
You will often be the first port of call for Volunteers who are concerned the Safeguarding Policy has been breached, that Campers or Volunteers are potentially the victims of neglect or abuse, or any other queries surrounding Safeguarding issues. Your role would be to support the person who has reported concerns to you and also inform Over The Wall staff of their disclosure. Whilst you will not be responsible for contacting the appropriate authorities to investigate concerns, you will be vital in ensuring the correct channels are made aware of any Safeguarding breaches.
Throughout Camp you will also need to be vigilant and observant to ensure Safeguarding procedures are in place and being followed.
As with our ‘Team Mate’ volunteers you will also be allocated to a Camp team and complete the everyday Team Mate role. You will therefore be an essential part of implementing Therapeutic Recreation at Camp (see our website for more information), helping to support, guide, inspire and empower our Campers to maximise their potential and increase their confidence. Campers will be divided into teams based on their age groups of 8-10, 11-13, 13-15 and 15-17 years of age. You will build amazing 1-1 relationships with your team of Campers on a daily basis.
All of the Over The Wall camps are residential over a range of 3 -5 nights. Our volunteers are required to attend up to 2 nights before our Campers arrive for training, team building and preparation. Full training and ongoing support is provided throughout camp. Volunteers have to make their own way to camp (Over The Wall provides a pick up and drop off to the local train station.)

This opportunity will assist you in gaining the following skills:

  • Interpersonal/Confidence
  • Teamwork
  • Problem solving/Creativity
  • Planning/Organising
  • Leadership/Management
