Volunteer with Over The Wall to gain incredible experience, change lives and have fun!
Over The Wall provides free of charge residential activity camps to children and young people aged 8-17 affected by serious illness and their families. We give seriously ill children and their families a week of experiences that are memorable, fun, empowering, physically safe and medically sound- but we require a group of superb volunteers to make the magic happen.
We recruit a lot of student and graduate Volunteers who have told us how much Over The Wall has improved their future studies and career opportunities. We have many returning student Volunteers because of the fantastic experiences they have.
Activity Leaders design and deliver activities in certain areas including Drama, Sports and Games, Discovery, Arts and Crafts or Music. The activity sessions are designed to create safe environments for the Campers to achieve their goals and reflect on their accomplishments. You will receive ongoing support from the Programme Coordinator and Over The Wall staff.
On average there are 4 sessions to design and to deliver. Each session will need to be tailored to both the age group of the Campers (who are divided into groups of 8-10, 11-13, 13-15 and 15-17) and the varying Camper ability.
All of our activities are designed within our model of Therapeutic Recreation (see our website for more information) and to be adaptable to all levels of ability and accessibility.
Activity Leaders also help to design, prepare and deliver our Evening Programme. Our Evening Programme could be anything- from a Disco and Talent Show, to bespoke activities such as a Camp Festival, a Whale Hunt or Game Show evening.
Activity Leaders will also be allocated a team at camp. Like our Team Mate volunteers, Activity Leaders support, guide, inspire and encourage our Campers to maximise their potential.
